Penn State Altoona Athletics has announced the hiring of Bradley Brooks as the next head coach of its men’s and women’s swimming program.
The Penn State Behrend, Pitt-Bradford, and Cabrini University women's swimming and diving teams have been named Division III Scholar All-America Teams by the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA). Alfred State College was the lone school on the men's side to pick up the same honor.
SUNY Delhi will join the AMCC as an affiliate member in the sport of men's and women's swimming, effective for the 2018-19 season.
All institution sport teams which compete for an AMCC championship may select one member from their team who displays good sportsmanship throughout the season to be a member of the All-AMCC Sportsmanship Team. These individuals are selected by vote of their teammates.
PS-Behrend junior Mark Patterson was named the AMCC Swimmer of the Year for the second year in a row as he was the only swimmer at the AMCC championships to hit an NCAA "B" cut time.
Beach was named AMCC Diver of the Year for the second straight year after winning the 1m and 3m competitions. He won the 3m competition with a new school record of 433.4 points while winning the 1m title with 432 points.
Patterson was named the AMCC Swimmer of the Year and was the only swimmer at the championships to hit an NCAA "B" cut time. He was the individual champion in three events (500 free, 200 free and 200 back). Patterson also swam on two winning relays. Overall on the weekend, he set 10 individual records and helped set the pool record in the 400 medley relay.
The Penn State Behrend men put substantial daylight between themselves and their closest rivals while the Cabrini College women surged ahead of Behrend for a four point lead on Day 3 of the AMCC Swimming and Diving Championship Meet.
The Penn St. Behrend women and the Alfred St. College men are in first place after the opening evening of competition at the 2018 AMCC Swimming and Diving Championship Meet.
Day 2 is in the books at the AMCC Swimming and Diving Championship, and Penn St. Behrend holds the lead for both the women and men.
The AMCC men's swimming and diving teams will take to the starting blocks this week for the 2018 AMCC championship meet. Hosted by Penn State Behrend at the Junker Center, the diving events will lead off Wednesday evening, with the swimming events to follow Thursday, February 15 through Saturday, February 17.
Penn State Behrend freshman Matthew Kuchcinski (North East, PA/North East) was named Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) North Division III Rookie of the Week, announced on Wednesday. Kuchcinski posted two first-place finishes in both the one-meter and three-meter dives against St. Vincent last week, finishing with scores of 223.70 and 247.20, respectively. He also notched two second-place finishes against Malone, recording a 222.50 score in the one-meter, and a 236.95 in the three-meter. The men's swimming and diving team returns to action when they host the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Championships on February 14.
Kuchcinski won the one-meter board with a score of 223.70 and then scored 247.20 on the three-meter board for first place vs. St. Vincent. On friday night, he placed second on both boards.
Schmidt won the 500 freestyle in 5:00.03 and placed second in the 1000 freestyle (10:24.80). Schmidt also swam on the second-place 200 freestyle relay to help the Lions defeat St. Vincent by four points.
