The 2019 AMCC Women's Volleyball Championship Tournament kicks off on Wednesday evening with first round match-ups. #6 La Roche University will travel to #3 Pitt-Bradford, while #4 Penn State Altoona hosts #5 Franciscan University. Regular season champion Penn State Behrend will be the top seed and will receive a first round bye, along with second-seeded Mount Aloysius College.
#1 Penn State Behrend (17-10, 10-0 AMCC) went undefeated in conference play during the regular season, compiling a perfect 10-0 record. Sophomore outside hitter Kristin Reiland leads the Lions with 273 kills and ranks fifth in the AMCC with 2.81 kills per set. Senior middle hitter Alex Parra has a conference-best .262 hitting percentage, while ranking second with 0.88 blocks per set. Junior DS Madison Clapper is first in the AMCC with 524 total digs, while sophomore outside Dani Kosslow leads the conference with 0.78 service aces per set.
Second-seeded Mount Aloysius (18-9, 8-2 AMCC) has been led offensively all season by junior OH Machala Gibbons, who is a three-time AMCC Player of the Week honoree. Gibbons leads the conference with 362 kills and 3.85 kills per set, while also ranking fourth with 400 digs on the season. Senior S Emma Pevarnik recorded a conference-leading 9.91 assists per set. Junior L Kylee Clawson led the conference with 5.64 digs per set and was second-best with 412 total digs.
Defending champion Pitt-Bradford (16-12, 8-2 AMCC) will enter this year's tournament as the #3 seed. Junior outside hitter Emily Cleveland leads the Panthers with 335 kills and 3.42 kills per set, while her .251 hitting percentage is third-best in the conference. Junior DS Laura Hildebrand ranks fifth in the conference with 4.51 digs per set.
Entering the tournament as the #4 seed is Penn St. Altoona (11-11, 7-3 AMCC). Freshman OH Jenna Bauer leads the Lady Lions with 2.51 kills per set, while freshman OH Lydia Mock has a team-leading 3.94 digs per set.
Earning the #5 seed in this year's tournament are the Barons from Franciscan (13-13, 6-4 AMCC). Junior MH Meghan Bayer ranks second in the conference with 3.84 kills per set. Junior L Lauren Betar leads the Barons with 3.71 digs per set.
Rounding out the tournament field is sixth-seeded La Roche (9-17, 5-5 AMCC). Junior MH Ingrid Spear is tops in the conference with 0.91 blocks per set. Senior L Erin Connor leads the Redhawks with 387 digs and 4.16 digs per set.
First round games will take place on Wednesday, November 6 at 7pm with #6 La Roche at #3 Pitt-Bradford and #5 Franciscan at #4 Penn St. Altoona.
