ALFRED STATE IS TOP SEED IN MEN'S LACROSSE SHOWCASE
The second annual AMCC Men's Lacrosse Showcase Tournament opens up Wednesday afternoon as #3 Medaille College travels to #1 Alfred State College and #2 Franciscan University hosts #4 La Roche College.
The second annual AMCC Men's Lacrosse Showcase Tournament opens up Wednesday afternoon as #3 Medaille College travels to #1 Alfred State College and #2 Franciscan University hosts #4 La Roche College. Hilbert College will not be participating in the showcase as they earned a spot in the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) championship tournament.
AMCC regular season champion Alfred State (6-8, 3-0 AMCC) went a perfect 3-0 in conference play and ranks third with 119 goals on the season. The Pioneers are led by Joe Johnson with 30 goals and 37 points while Branden Dickson has a team-leading 11 assists on the season. Pioneer goalkeeper Matt Cobb ranks second in the conferene wih 176 saves and a 55.2 save percentage.
Franciscan (5-8, 2-2 AMCC) tops all AMCC teams with 177 goals and a 13.62 goal per game average. The Barons lay claim to three of the top four goal scorers in the conference, including Dan McCartney's 47 goals to lead the conference. Jonas McCaig is in the third spot with 37 goals, while Mike Rosaschi is fourth with 36. In addition to his 37 goals, McCaig leads the way with 40 assists and 77 points. In net for the Barons, goalkeeper Grant McKeown ranks third with 134 saves and has registered a 45.5 save percentage.
Medaille (1-10, 1-3 AMCC) junior attack Tyler Fales has led the way offensively for the Mavs, recording 22 goals and 10 assists for a team-leading 32 points. Goalkeeper Towi Oakes leads the conference with 202 saves and ranks third with a 51.0 save percentage.
Rounding out the teams is La Roche (0-13, 0-3) who will be fighting for their first win of the season. Brad LaBovick leads the way for the Redhawks with 28 goals while Brent Burkhouse has added 13 assists. Defensively, goalkeeper Joel Chavez ranks fifth in the conference with 67 saves.
The showcase final will be played on Sunday, May 6 with the first round winners set to host.
