McCAIG, HARKINS HEADLINE MEN'S LACROSSE ALL-CONFERENCE TEAM
Franciscan University senior A Jonas McCaig has been named the AMCC Men's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Year.
Franciscan University senior A Jonas McCaig has been named the AMCC Men's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Year. McCaig led the Barons with a school-record 77 points this season behind 37 goals and 40 assists.McCaig finished his career as the all-time points and goals leader at FUS . The senior eclipsed 200 points for his career in the final game of the regular season. McCaig finished the regular season third in the conference in goals (37) and first in points (77). McCaig was second in the AMCC with six man-up goals this season and first with two man-down goals. He was 14th in the conference and fourth on the team with 39 ground balls. At the end of the regular season, McCaig ranked 10th in the country in points per game (5.5) and 14th in assists per game (2.75).
Franciscan freshman LSD Jerome Harkins was tabbed as the Defensive Player of the Year. Harkins led the Barons with a school record 111 ground balls and 42 caused turnovers in his freshman year. Harkins had a career-best 22 groundballs against Medaille and had double-digit ground ball totals in four games. Harkins caused a turnover in every game but one. He led the conference in caused turnovers and second in ground balls. At the end of the regular season, Harkins ranked 18th in the country in ground balls per game (8.08) and 53rd in caused turnovers per game (2.25).
Newcomer of the Year honors goes to Hilbert College freshman MID Ryan Spath. Spath finished with a .532 face-off percentage and was third on the team with 58 ground balls. He also became an offensive weapon finishing the regular season with 11 goals (including the game winner against Keuka) and six assists.
Alfred State College head coach Jonathan Hoover picks up Coach of the Year honors. Hoover led the Pioneers to a 3-0 AMCC record in regular season play and a runner-up finish in the AMCC showcase tournament.
