La Roche College is excited to announce that Emily Shimko has been named the head coach of the women's cross country program. Shimko has served as the men's and women's assistant coach for the past two seasons.
"Coach Shimko is going to be an outstanding addition to our coaching staff", said Director of Athletics Jim Tinkey. "For the past two years she has served as an assistant coach to both the men's and women's cross country teams. Our women's cross country program will certainly benefit from Coach Shimko's experience with strength and conditioning training as well as her enthusiasm for the sport".
The Redhawks have made major strides under Shimko's watch. Last year's men's squad enjoyed their best AMCC finish in over ten years. Additionally, both the men's and women's cross country teams have competed in the NCAA Regional Meet the past two seasons.
Shimko is an avid runner having completed three marathons and 14 half marathons. She is a NSCA (National Strength and Conditioning Association) Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist and an ACE (American Council on Exercise) Certified Personal Trainer.
Shimko completed her undergraduate degree at Slippery Rock University and she has a Master's of Science in Health and Physical Activity from the University of Pittsburgh. She is currently pursuing her Doctorate of Education in Health and Physical Activity at the University of Pittsburgh and serves as an adjunct professor in La Roche College's biology department.
