ELMIRA SWEEPS AMCC WOMEN'S WRESTLING DUALS
The Elmira College women's wrestling team went 5-0 at the AMCC Women's Wrestling Duals hosted by Penn State Altoona. The duals featured six different AMCC teams, seeing Elmira finish in first place to be crowned the AMCC Duals Champions.
John Carroll University (4-1) placed second, Hiram College (3-2) placed third, Alfred State College (2-3) placed fourth, Penn State Altoona (1-4) placed fifth, and Buffalo State University (0-5) finished in sixth place.
The Elmira Soaring Eagles opened the day with a 32-15 victory over Hiram. In their second match of the day, Elmira was victorious over the Pioneers, 37-10. In their third match of the day, Elmira faced a tough John Carroll crew, hanging on for the 28-18 win. In their fourth match of the day, the Soaring Eagles beat Penn State Altoona 38-6 before defeating Buffalo State 38-6 in their final match of the day.
Elmira's Megan Edwards and Talia Robles each recorded five wins on the day for the purple and gold, while Joycedeliz Rodriguez-Santiago, A. Martins-Garcia, Gabby Bradigan, Zoey Lints got four wins a piece for the Soaring Eagles.
John Carroll went 4-1 on the day, only falling to Elmira. At 103, Taylor MacAdams had a great showing going 2-0 and earned two bonus point victories. Addy Crane had a strong showing at 110, as the first year would go 2-0 throughout the day, including a pinfall over a two-time national qualifier. At 117, Emily Leesberg had a strong effort by winning three matches, earning 16 points in the other matches throughout the afternoon. Nora Mooney had a good showing at 138 by winning the two matches she competed in.
In a 32-15 loss to Elmira, Hiram still picked up a pair of victories from first-year Alazhandra Williams (180 lbs) and Emily Lorenzon (207 lbs). Williams also won against John Carroll by fall (1:38) and Emrie Fink (145 lbs) did the same (0:41), although the Terriers also fell short in that dual. Six different wrestlers were victorious against the hosts of the event, PSU Altoona, while seven wrestlers won against Buffalo State. Included in those results were wins by junior Lexi Doerflinger (technical fall, 10-0), sophomore Autumn Shoff (fall, 0:37) and Lorenzon (fall, 0:57).
Alfred State College, Penn State Altoona, and Buffalo State rounded out the final three teams in the competition.
