The AMCC women's volleyball game of the week is a rematch from the 2017 AMCC championship match that featured the Penn State Behrend Lions and the La Roche College Redhawks. Currently, the Lions have won eight of their last nine matches, recently sweeping D’Youville 3-0 on Wednesday night. The Redhawks have won five of their past six matches, including a 3-0 sweep of Penn State Altoona in their last outing.
Behrend (14-8, 5-0 AMCC) has won all five conference matches by a score of 3-0. The Lions are riding a three-match winning streak against the Redhawks, defeating La Roche 3-2 in all three meetings including the AMCC Championship match last year. Behrend is led by three-time AMCC Athlete of the Week, Lexi Irwin. She ranks second in the conference in assists per set (8.18) and is first in hitting percentage (.334). As a team, the Lions ranks second in the AMCC in kills, assists and digs.
La Roche comes into Saturday’s match at 10-11 and 3-2 in the AMCC. The Redhawks are on a roll, winning four of their past five matches and climbing into fourth in the AMCC. AMCC All-Conference first teamer and 2016 Newcomer of the Year, Hannah Scott, leads the AMCC in digs per set. Scott led the AMCC in digs in 2016 and 2017. AMCC Preseason Player of the Year and three-time AMCC All-Conference Performer Laura Nath ranks second in kills per set. Nath joined the 1000 kills/1000 digs club earlier this season. She also led the AMCC in digs in 2016 and 2017. The offense runs through setter Sarah Storino. Storino ranks second in the AMCC in serving aces and fourth in assists. Ingrid Spear has a team-best forty-one blocks.
