Franciscan University (6-20, 4-4 AMCC) will travel to D'Youville College (7-15, 5-3 AMCC) on Saturday afternoon for the AMCC Women's Volleyball Game of the Week. With only game remaining the regular season, the Barons are in a three-way tie for fourth place while the Spartans are in third, with each team battling to move up in the seedings for the postseason tournament.
The Franciscan volleyball enters the final match of the regular season with a 4-4 record, looking to secure a home match in the 2016 AMCC Tournament. This year's Lady Barons are led by sophomores Maria Ciola and Becca Haven. Ciola leads the Lady Barons with 240 kills and is averaging 2.55 kills per set while Haven has dished out 428 assists and is third on the team with 136 kills. For her career, Ciola is sixth on the Lady Barons all-time kill list with 455 and needs just 22 more to move into a tie for fifth. Haven is securely in second on the Franciscan's all-time assist list with 958 so far as a Lady Baron and needs 42 to reach 1,000. Haven is averaging 4.76 assists per set this season and 4.96 for her career. The Lady Baron offense has gotten a spark from freshman middle Roz Pridemore who has 141 kills this season and is hitting .241 for the year. Sophomore Callahan Hickey leads the Lady Barons with 309 digs while senior Mary Moore is close behind with 301. Senior Rachel Potopa continues to be a steady leader for the Lady Barons and has 230 assists this season to bring her career total to 617. Potopa is second on the team with 23 aces, behind only fellow senior Mary Moore who has 32.
The D'Youville women's volleyball team has been a roll in conference play as of late, winning four of their last five to move into the top three of the conference with a 5-3 record. Junior Abby Booth has been leading the way for the team with 113 assists and 88 digs in the last five games as well as being named AMCC Player of the Week. Overall she has accumulated 185 assists and 85 digs in conference. Several other veteran Spartans have been crucial to the team's success. Kendyll Smith leads the team with 168 assists, followed by Megan McCarthy with 137 and Megan Schneider with 133. McCarthy leads the team in both hitting percentage and blocks per set, while Schneider is fourth on the team in digs. In the last five games, Smith is third on the team in digs. Freshman Jasmine Filkov has made an immediate impact as a defensive presence. She leads the team with 235 digs and has help solidify the team. The Spartans have had a full team effort in their conference success. They have four players over 120 kills, seven players of 100 digs, three players over 20 service aces and two players over 270 assists.
