NAZARETH, BEHREND ADD TO LEADS ON DAY 2 OF AE SWIMMING & DIVING CHAMPIONSHIP
After the second day and 40 events of competition at the Allegheny Empire Swimming and Diving Championship meet, Nazareth College has increased their lead in the overall and Empire 8 standings for both the men’s and women’s teams while Penn State Behrend has increased its lead on the men’s side, but has seen Alfred State College creep to within 10 points on the women’s side.
After the second day and 40 events of competition at the Allegheny Empire Swimming and Diving Championship meet, Nazareth College has increased their lead in the overall and Empire 8 standings for both the men’s and women’s teams while Penn State Behrend has increased its lead on the men’s side, but has seen Alfred State College creep to within 10 points on the women’s side.
Nazareth picked up right where they started on Wednesday, winning both 200-yard freestyle relays to begin the day. The Golden Flyer men’s team won their relay by more than a second, beating out Penn State-Behrend with a time of 1:24.03. Their counterparts on the women’s side also won by more than a second, finishing ahead of Hartwick College with a time of 1:36.07
After Nazareth’s John Koch repeated his victory in the 200-yard individual medley with a second win in the 400, Grace Dangelo of Penn State-Altoona became the first swimmer from an AMCC program to win an event at the meet, taking the 400 IM in 4:39.10. The Lions from Penn State-Altoona picked up a second individual champion on the day when Isaac Swanson won the men’s 200 yard freestyle. Swanson beat out the second place swimmer by less than half of a second, finishing in 1:41.97.
In the women’s 1 meter diving competition, Allie Norwood and Taylor Woltz, both from Nazareth battled for the top two spots in the event. Norwood came out on top with a score of 438.45, while Woltz finished with 429.60. Sarah Stevens, Leah Langerman and Rebecca Stevens all from Alfred State rounded out the top 5.
The closest race of the evening was the men’s 400-yard medley relay. Despite a late push in the freestyle leg from Diallo Marshall of Hartwick, Nazareth’s team of Tom Griffin, John Koch, Luca Biagiotti and Matt Corona was able to hold off the Hawks to win the race by 3 tenths of a second.

The action will resume Friday with preliminary swimming trials at 10:00 a.m., diving trials at 1:00 p.m. and the finals at 6:00 p.m. On the schedule for Day 3 are the 200-yard butterfly, 100-yard backstroke, 100-yard breaststroke, men’s one-meter diving and the 800-yard freestyle relay.
