BERHEND'S LOWERY AND CABRINI'S LORO TAKE HOME TOP WOMEN'S SWIMMING AWARDS

Penn St. Behrend sophomore Gwen Lowery has been named the 2016 AMCC Women's Swimmer of the Year. Lowery was a consistent point scorer all year, pulling in 10 individual first place finishes, and only once not scoring in the top two. At the AMCC championships, she won the 200 IM, achieving a season best time of 2:12.69 and placing fourth overall the first day. The second day of competition she doubled up with wins in the 100 butterfly and 200 freestyle, setting a new AMCC and team record with a time of 1:57.95, claiming a seventh and fourth respectively in the overall invitational. Lowery was also part of four championship relays, capping off the meet by breaking a five year old AMCC and team record in the 400 freestyle relay. She was co-High Point winner at this year's meet. Throughout the course of the year Lowery set four new team top ten times in the 200 and 500 freestyle as well as the 200 and 400 IM.
Cabrini College freshman Marissa Loro was tabbed the AMCC Newcomer of the Year. Loro was a major contributor to the Cabrini College women's team, particularly in the distance events. She helped earn conference wins against Pitt-Bradford and Franciscan and was a top-3 point scorer for the team. During the dual meet season, Loro placed first in four swims, secnd in 10 swims and third in eight swims. For the 2015-2016 season, she holds team-best times in the 500, 1,000 and 1,650 freestyle events. At the AMCC Championships, Loro placed secnd in both the 1,650 free (cutting over 30 seconds off her seed time) and the 500 free (cutting over 10 seconds off her seed time). The rookie also placed fourth in the 200 free. She was a member of the AMCC first place 800 free relay and two relays that earned second place in the AMCC (200 free relay and 400 free relay).
Franciscan University senior Kellie Rankin received Diver of the Year honors after winning the 1-meter dive at the AMCC championship.
Ed Bahan, the Pitt-Bradford coach who passed away suddenly in November, received posthumous recognition as Coach of the Year for both the men and women. Bahan led the Panthers for nine seasons, and was named AMCC Coach of the Year five times.
