PITT-BRADFORD WOMEN LOOKING TO MAKE PROGRAM HISTORY
The Pitt-Bradford women's soccer team hosted the AMCC championships last year, but fell short in the title game. This year, they are hoping for a different outcome and are looking for the first women's soccer championship in program history.
The Pitt-Bradford women's soccer team hosted the AMCC championships last year, but fell short in the title game. This year, they are hoping for a different outcome and are looking for the first women's soccer championship in program history.
The top-seeded Panthers have a conference-best record of 7-1 and are led by sophomore goalkeeper Sarah Dailey. Dailey is a two-time AMCC Player of the Week and ranks first in the conference with an .832 save percentage and a 1.21 goals-against average. Offensively, sophomore midfielder Kaitlyn Donnelly leads the attack with five goals and four assists.
Winners of the past four championships, Penn St. Behrend enters the tournament as the #2 seed. The Lions will look to junior forward Alex Bilka to lead them offensively, as Bilka leads the conference with 11 assists, is second with 35 points, and ranks third with 12 goals. Senior goalkeeper Taylor Troyan is fourth in the AMCC with a 1.59 goals-against average.
After missing the playoffs in 2014, Pitt-Greensburg is back with a vengeance as the #3 seed. The Bobcats have looked strong all year, including two big wins over Pitt-Bradford and Penn St. Behrend. Freshman standout Kayleen Schwegler has led the team offensively all season, as she is a two-time AMCC Player of the week, and ranks second in the conference with 13 goals. Sophomore goalkeeper Shannon Edwards, also a former Player of the Week, ranks third in the conference with 108 saves and is fifth with a .777 save percentage.
#4 La Roche College boasts 2014 Newcomer of the Year, and AMCC-leading goal scorer, sophomore forward Vanessa Ceravolo. Along with her 16 goals on the year, Ceravolo also tallied six assists, good enough for third in the conference. Senior goalkeeper Destiney Davis ranks fourth in the conference with 21 goals against, and is fifth with her 1.69 goals-against average.
Entering the tournament as the #5 seed is D'Youville College. Freshman goalkeeper Megan Dulniak has been solid between the pipes, as she ranks second in the conference with an .821 save percentage, and also sits second in goals against (19) and goals-against average (1.24).
Rounding out the women's soccer tournament is #6 Penn St. Altoona, earning their first playoff berth since 2011. The Lady Lions will rely on the leadership of senior goalkeeper Mackenzie Strubhar, who leads the AMCC with 17 goals against and is fourth with a .798 goals-against average.
First round games will be played on Saturday, October 31, with the top two seeds receiving byes. The semifinals will take place on Wednesday, November 4, with the championship game on Saturday, November 7. The AMCC champion will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament, with the national championship to be played in Kansas City, MO, December 4-5.
