Penn State Altoona women’s soccer suffered a 2-1 double
overtime loss at Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference rival
Penn State Behrend on Saturday, September 27, but the Lady Lions
were able to take some solace in a record-setting accomplishment
from their starting goalkeeper.
Junior goalie Mackenzie Strubhar made 12 saves in
the loss to move into first place on the women’s soccer
program’s all-time saves list. Strubhar, whose collegiate
soccer career began at Penn State Altoona in 2012, passed former
Lady Lion Haley Wheeler to establish a new record with 237 saves,
and that mark has since grown to 249. Wheeler made 228 saves over a
two-year span, ranging from 2004 to 2005.
Strubhar currently leads the AMCC in saves this season with 71 in
11 games and is fourth in saves per game, averaging 6.45 stops per
contest.
