For the fourth year in a row, the Franciscan University women's lacrosse team was named an IWLCA Zag Sports Academic Honor Squad while five players were named to the 2016 Academic Honor Roll.
The IWLCA has named 275 schools across Division I, II, III, and NAIA as IWLCA Zag Sports Academic Honor Squads for the 2015-16 academic year. In order to qualify for this prestigious honor, the women's lacrosse team must have posted a 3.0 or higher team GPA for the year.
Individually, seniors Tracy McClelland and Emily Bedard, graduate student Margaret Gargulinski, and juniors Christine Rice and Catherine Cahill were named to the 2016 Academic Honor Roll.
The IWLCA honored student-athletes from 301 different institutions with inclusion in the 2016 IWLCA Zag Sports Academic Honor Roll. In order to be eligible for this honor, student-athletes must be a junior, senior, or graduate student and earned a cumulative academic GPA of 3.50 or greater.
All three captains, Bedard, Rice and Cahill, made the honor roll this year while this is the second honor for McClelland and Bedard and third for Gargulinski.
"I am proud that our three captains and the upperclassmen are leading the team by example both in the classroom and on the field," complimented head coach Maura Conant. "They are true examples of becoming the best they can be in mind, body, and spirit!"
The Lady Barons excelled in the classroom and the field this season after their most successful campaign since the program began in 2013. FUS finished 8-5 for the year, which included a seven-game win streak that spanned the middle of the season.
