PENN ST. ALTOONA LEADS AFTER DAY ONE OF JANUARY ROUND ROBIN
After the first day of this weekend's AMCC second Round Robin competition of the season, the Penn State Altoona women's bowling team found itself in first place by a narrow margin.
After the first day of this weekend's Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference second Round Robin competition of the season, the Penn State Altoona women's bowling team found itself in a close battle for first place.
Saturday's format featured traditional team matches. Medaille drew first blood, opening the day with a tight 828-817 win over Penn State Altoona. The Lady Lions bounced back to defeat Mount Aloysius, 835-784. Meanwhile, Mount Aloysius edged Medaille, 767-750, to create the three-way tie for the lead. The tie was broken based on total pinfall in matches played versus each other. When the dust cleared, it was Penn St. Altoona in first (1,652), Medaille second (1,578) and Mount Aloysius third (1,551). New Jersey City University claimed the fourth spot with a 1-3 record while Pitt-Bradford went 0-4.
Medaille senior Tallie Papke led all individual bowlers in total pinfall with 716 for an average of 179. Papke also bowled the high score on the day with 219 against Pitt-Bradford.
Mount Aloysius freshman Rayissa Amon was second overall with 705 total pins and a 176.25 average. Rounding out the top 3 individuals was Penn St. Altoona junior Brea Suchonic, who finished with 697 total pins for an average of 174.25.
The second and final day of the AMCC Round Robin is tomorrow at 9:00 AM. The teams will compete in the Baker format.
