BEHREND WOMEN'S BASKETBALL FALLS TO HOPE IN NCAA TOURNAMENT
The ninth-ranked Hope College women's basketball team defeated Penn State Behrend 103-65 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday night.
Hope drained seven three pointers in the first half, while Maddie Petroelje had four of the seven triples for 18 points at the break. Annie Richards was also in double figures with 11 in the first 20 minutes. Julia Balaski registered nine points in the first half and added six more in the second for a team-high 15 points for Behrend.
The Flying Dutch held a 15-point lead after the first quarter (25-10) then outscored the Lions 35-19 in the second stanza for a 60-29 advantage at the break. The Flying Dutch shot 53.8 percent from the floor and the Lions shot 43.6 percent. Hope scored 62 points in the paint and forced 19 turnovers.
Morgan Altavilla contributed 12 points and Alaina Fabin tallied 10 points. Madilyn Boyer posted eight points and a team-best eight rebounds
