BEHREND WOMEN CLAIM FOURTH BASKETBALL TITLE IN PROGRAM HISTORY
In the AMCC women's basketball title matchup, #1 seed Penn State Behrend defeated #3 seed Penn State Altoona, 78–61, to capture their fourth conference championship in program history.
Behrend jumped out early and built a lead behind a dominant performance from Alaina Fabin, who finished with a game-high 32 points and 16 rebounds, pacing the Lions on both ends of the floor.
The Lions led from nearly the opening possession, stretching the advantage with efficient shooting and strong rebounding. Behrend outscored Altoona in each quarter except the second, maintaining control even as Altoona pushed back at times.
In addition to Fabin leading the way for Behrend, Morgan Altavilla recorded 13 points and four assists, while Lilly Palladino added 14 points and six rebounds. Madilyn Boyer rounded out the double digit scorers with 15 points to go along with seven rebounds and five assists.
Penn State Altoona showed fight, particularly from Lanie Wilt, who led the Lions with 18 points and five assists. Jaidyn McCracken and Haley Hicks also registered double figures for the Altoona Lions, contributing 11 points and four rebounds a piece.
As a team, Behrend scored 17 points in transition and shot 88.2% from the free throw line while registering 14 assists. The Behrend Lions dominated on the glass, outrebounding Altoona by a 45-26 margin.
With the win, Behrend will earn the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. They will await the announcement of their first-round opponent during the NCAA Selection Show scheduled for Monday at 2:30 p.m.
