The AMCC Women's Basketball Game of the Week features the Pitt-Greensburg Bobcats traveling to Erie, PA on Saturday to take on the Lions of Penn State Behrend.
The Pitt-Greensburg women’s basketball team is coming into the AMCC Game of the Week against the Lions of Penn State Behrend winners of four of their last five games. The Bobcats are 5-3 in AMCC play, led by junior guard Melina Maietta. Maietta, who just became the newest member of the Bobcat 1,000-point club, is leading the team while scoring 20.4 points per game in AMCC play. Sophomore Taina Moracco has been the chairman of the boards, securing nine rebounds per game. Freshman Malina Boord has been hitting from behind the arc in AMCC play, shooting a team-best 34 percent from three-point range. The Bobcats will look to establish themselves in the top of the AMCC with a huge rivalry win.
The Lions are coming of 90-78 win at Alfred State on Wednesday night, as the win marks Behrend’s sixth straight win to improve to 7-1 in the AMCC and 9-6 overall. Sophomore G Morgan Altavilla and junior G Rachel Majewski each had career-highs against the Pioneers. Altavilla knocked down a career-high and game-best 34 points and grabbed a team-best eight rebounds. Majewski followed with 33 points for her best scoring performance to date. Behrend used a 24-10 run in the final 10 minutes of the game to make the difference against Alfred State. Majewski is averaging 20.4 points in the eight conference games played to rank second in the AMCC, while Altavilla is fifth with 18.9 points per game. As a team, the Lions are scoring 81.6 points per game in conference play and holding opponents to 59.9 points.
