The AMCC Women's Basketball Game of the Week features the Mount Aloysius College Mounties traveling to Buffalo, NY on Saturday afternoon to take on the Medaille College Mavericks. With a 1-1 conference record, the Mavs are currently in fifth place in conference standings, while the 1-2 Mounties are in sixth.
Mount Aloysius looks to close out the first half of the season on a high note. They're coming off a week that saw them win their first game of the season against rival Penn State Altoona. They're led by a few different individuals. Sophomore guards Zoe Harding and Carly Stigers were both named Players to Watch at the beginning of the season, and have started every game for the Mounties. In last week's games, freshman G/F Cameron Bates produced the first two double-doubles of her career, averaging 14.5 rebounds on the week. Freshman G Bree Garzel has also impacted the Mounties recently, as she scored in double digits, three of the last four games. The Mounties are extremely young, with five true freshmen playing over 10 minutes per game.
Going into Saturday’s game, the Mavericks have a 1-1 AMCC Conference record, with a 4-5 record overall. They have the potential to get to 5-5 after a game against Elmira College on Wednesday. In their win over Penn State Altoona in their first conference matchup, the Mavericks won 60-43. Four Mavs scored in the double-digits, while senior forward Morgan Kennedy finished with a double-double. Sophomore Shyanne Trinh leads the team in total points with 128. She is a big offensive threat when she’s outside the arc. Trinh has sunk 25 of her 79 attempts, and has a .357 total field goal percentage. She currently holds fifth place in the conference for points per game with 14.8. Junior Erin Hardick is second in total points with 89. The point guard is currently leading the team in assists with 45. She is second in the AMCC in assists per game average with 5.
The last time the Mavs and the Mounties faced off was in 2020. The Mounties took the win 58-43. Kennedy was the top scorer of the game with 14 points. This matchup will be one to watch as the Mavs will be fighting to stay ahead of the Mounties in the AMCC standings
