This week’s AMCC Game of the Week is a showdown between La Roche University (4-2, 1-0 AMCC) and Pitt-Greensburg (5-1. 1-0 AMCC). The last time these two teams matched up was in the 2019-20 season; almost two full years ago as the 2020-21 season was canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The first time these two teams matched up in the 2019-20 season the game went into overtime with La Roche coming out on top 73-63. The second time these teams faced-off it was another close call. The final score of the game was 70-67 in favor of the Redhawks. Finally, these teams competed in the AMCC Tournament Semifinals. The winner of this game went on to play in the championship contest. La Roche was able to prevail once more with a score of 60-54.
All of these three matchups scored within 10 or less points of each other. Now, almost two years later it’s time for these teams to match up again.
The Bobcat Women’s Basketball team heads into its AMCC Game of the Week matchup with La Roche with a 5-1 record and most recently defeating Hilbert 81-39 in the team’s conference opener. In the game against Hilbert each of the 12 Bobcats on the roster scored and secured a rebound. Nadege Durand is coming into this game as the Bobcats leading scorer and averaging a double-double, netting 15.7 points per game and securing 11.2 rebounds per game. Junior Sidney McCully is also having a strong season, averaging 10.7 points and 6 rebounds per game. McCully also has 24 steals on the season. Maddie Sitler rounds out the Bobcats averaging double digits in scoring, dropping 10.3 points per game.
This will be the Redhawks’ second conference matchup after an overtime win over Penn State-Altoona (81-72). La Roche this season is shooting 41.7% from field goal range, and 27.8% from the three-point line. The Redhawks also win about 40 rebounds per game. Leading the pack this season is senior Danajah Sanders. Sanders averages 14.5 points per game with a game high of 25 against Washington & Jefferson College. She also averages just over two steals per game. Makayla Abram, a freshman, has been showing up for LRU and is averaging 13.3 points per game with six rebounds per game. She had a career high 21 points against Penn State-Altoona. The leading rebounder for La Roche is Machia Hairston. She had her first collegiate double-double on December 1st against Penn State-Altoona when she recorded 20 points and 13 rebounds. Hairston averages 9.8 points per game and 7.3 rebounds.
