Hilbert College claimed their first AMCC women’s basketball title in program history last season, and are expected to repeat in 2018, according to league coaches. Pitt-Bradford is expected to finish second, with La Roche College rounding out the top three.
Penn St. Altoona junior guard Finnley Christine and Pitt-Bradford senior forward Jennifer Isenberg have been selected as the 2018 AMCC Preseason Co-Players of the Year. Christine had a breakout season in 2017 for the Lady Lions. In conference play, she finished fifth in points per game (17.6), sixth in field goals made (150), free throws made (81), and steals (58). She was seventh in assists (78), eighth in points scored (405), ninth in free throw percentage (77.1%), and 10th in field goal percentage (42.7%).
Isenberg is the AMCC's leading returning rebounder with 10.3 boards per game last season. She finished 11th in the AMCC last year with 14.7 points per game and 15 points per game in conference play. Isenberg finished first on the team and fourth in the AMCC with 4.1 offensive rebounds per game, scored in double-figures in 20 games and had eight games scoring 20 points or more. She scored a career-high 27 points in the double-overtime AMCC semifinals game against Mount Aloysius College on February 24, including a game-tying three-pointer in the closing seconds of overtime that forced double-OT.
The AMCC Championship will be held Sunday, February 24 at the site of the number one seed, with the winner earning the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
