D’Youville College will travel to Pittsburgh, PA Saturday afternoon to take on La Roche College in the AMCC Women's Basketball Game of the Week. D’Youville has one of the best defenses in the AMCC, allowing the third least amount of points to opponents this season with 820 points allowed. La Roche has the top ranked offense and third ranked defense in the AMCC. They are scoring at 72.2 clip and giving up just 64.2 points per game. The Spartans are currently fourth in the AMCC with a 3-3 record and are 5-7 overall. The Redhawks come into the game of the week with a perfect 6-0 record in the AMCC and a 9-4 record overall.
The D’Youville women’s basketball team comes into Saturday’s game after going 1-1 in their last two conference games. Senior guard/forward Jean-Ann Korona has been the leader of the Spartans this season. In her last 10 games, Korona has scored at least 15 points in every game while four of those games were games of at least 21 points. She has three double-doubles this season, including a 15 point, 14 rebound performance on Monday at Pitt.-Bradford. She is fourth in the AMCC in points per game (17.6) and fifth in rebounds per game (8.5), but leads the team in both categories. Junior guard Ali Cochrane scored a career high 21 points on Monday and has had a breakout season. Cochrane is second on the team in scoring (9.2 ppg) and a threat from behind the arc. Sophomore guard Magan Magee is the team’s floor general and leads the team in assists (3.9 apg) and steals (3.5 spg), as well as adding a shooting threat for the team. Freshman forward CeDrice Howard has been a big lift off the bench for the team, coming off a career high 18 points on Monday.
The Redhawks have won fifteen straight conference games and twenty-five of their past twenty-six. They are a veteran team with five players who have won three AMCC Championships. Senior forward TiChina Mitchell paces the Redhawks on offense and is averaging 28.5 points and 8.8 rebounds per game. She has scored at least 20 points in every game this season and was an AMCC All-Conference First Teamer last season. Senior guard/forward Danasha Harris is one of the top defensive players in the country and is a three-time AMCC Defensive Player of the Year. Harris leads the AMCC in both rebounds and steals and ranks third in assists. She has scored in double-figures in ten straight games and registered double-doubles in the past three. Senior forward Mackenzie O’Donnell is fourth on La Roche’s all-time points list and averaging 13.8 points and 4.6 blocks. Senior guard Gloria Schifino leads the Redhawks and ranks second in the league in assists. Junior guard Darrian Johnson is averaging 10 points a game and a threat from beyond the arc.
