AMCC RELEASES SOFTBALL ALL-CONFERENCE TEAM, MAJOR AWARD WINNERS
Penn State Altoona junior outfielder Riley Best has been named the AMCC Softball Player of the Year. Best was the AMCC triple crown winner in the regular season, finishing first in the conference in batting average (.486), home runs (9), and RBI (53). She also finished the regular season leading the AMCC in total bases (97), on-base percentage (.557), and slugging percentage (.890) while being second in hits (53), third in runs scored (41), and fourth in walks (18) and triples (3). Best was a two-time AMCC Player of the Week selection this season.
Penn State Behrend senior Abby Tingley has been tabbed the AMCC Pitcher of the Year. Tingley went undefeated at 8-0 in conference play while earning one save in six complete games. She ranked third with a 1.76 ERA and was second in shutouts with two. Tingley also ranked third in strikeouts with 33. Overall, Tingley regisrered 70 strikeouts in 21 appearances and 13 complete games for a 2.58 ERA. This season, she reached 300 career strikeouts.
Newcomer of the Year honors goes to Pitt-Bradford freshman outfield Sasha Ginsberg. Ginsberg had a standout debut campaign for Pitt-Bradford, playing 34 games in the outfield. She slashed .469/.551/.541 with 46 hits, 31 runs, 27 RBI, and 19 stolen bases. She finished the season third in the conference in batting average and on-base percentage, and was in the top 10 in hits, RBI, runs scored, and stolen bases. She also had a solid season defensively, collecting 43 putouts and five assists in the outfield.
Penn State Behrend head coach Ashley Gruber has been named Coach of the Year for the fourth time in her career. Gruber led the Lions to a 15-1 regular season record and the No. 1 seed in the AMCC Postseason Tournament, capturing their 12th overall AMCC conference tournament title.
