The AMCC conference softball schedule will open up this weekend for the first time since the 2019 season. The first Game of the Week features Pitt-Bradford at Mount Aloysius College. While both teams are sitting at 0-0 in conference play, according to the AMCC preseason coaches poll, the Mounties were picked to finish first in conference standings this year, while the Panthers were selected third.
The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford softball team swept their season-opening doubleheader at Alfred State College. Senior pitchers Jordan Uhing and Kerrigan Hoffmann were dominant for the Panthers. Uhing allowed one run in a complete game victory that saw her strike out eight batters. Hoffmann followed this up with a six inning shutout. The Panthers offense used a balanced attack in the wins, seeing 13 different players register hits. Katie Marx went 3-for-3 in game one and Chloe Cordova drove in three runs over the two contests. The two wins put head coach Tina Phillips at 300 wins at the helm of the program.
Mount Aloysius opened up their 2021 season with a double header sweep of Pitt-Greensburg last Saturday. The preseason leaders in the coaches poll look to get off to a good start in AMCC play this weekend. They are led by junior 1B/C Lydia DeFazio, who currently has a .500 average to go along with five RBIs in two games. DeFazio is the reigning AMCC Player of the Year. The Mounties are looking to get major contributions from their freshman class, having used two freshman pitchers on Saturday and only having four players that have played in a Mountie uniform prior to this season.
