PENN STATE ALTOONA IS COACHES' PICK TO WIN IT ALL IN 2014
With its roster core in tact from last year's championship season, Penn State Altoona is expected to successfully defend their AMCC title in 2014, according to the AMCC coaches poll.
With its roster core intact from the 2013 championship season,
Penn State Altoona is expected to successfully
defend their AMCC title in 2014, according to the AMCC
coaches. The Lions received seven of ten first place
votes. Pitt-Bradford was voted to finish
second and Mount Aloysius College likely to take
third.
The Mounties’ senior centerfielder Jalisa
Westover was selected as Preseason Player of the Year.
Named first team all-conference in 2013, Westover led the
AMCC in hits (62) and total bases (84). She hit .443, scoring
33 runs and driving in 33 more. The vote for Preseason
Pitcher of the Year was tightly contested, with Pitt-Bradford
senior co-captain Sydney Mosby emerging as the top
choice. Mosby, the 2013 AMCC Pitcher of the Year, led the
AMCC last year with 15 wins and ranked 2nd in ERA (2.05)
and 3rd in strikeouts (118). She boasted a
team-leading .383 batting average, good for 7th overall
in the conference.
The AMCC tournament will be held May 2-4 at the site of the #1
seed, with the winner earning the conference’s automatic bid
to the NCAA tournament.
