The AMCC Men's Volleyball Match of the Week features 2-0 Penn State Altoona and 1-0 Buffalo State University.
Penn State Altoona men’s volleyball enters Friday night’s tilt with Buffalo State holding a 12-10 overall record and a 2-0 mark within the AMCC. As a team, the Lions lead the conference in service aces (116) and are second in the league in kills (815), assists (758), assists per set (9.72), aces per set (1.49), digs (775), and total blocks (128). Freshman opposite hitter Caleb Fries is having a standout rookie season, as he leads the AMCC in points (314.5), points per set (4.1), kills (247), aces (42), and aces per set (0.55). Sophomore setter Mason Grover is averaging 8.41 assists per set, while freshman setter Zayden Tamashiro is putting up 7.22 assists per set. Defensively, freshman libero Adam Chan is second in the league in digs (163) and fifth in digs per set (2.09), and sophomore middle blocker Landen Fisher ranks third in the conference in block assists (45) and blocks per set (0.80) and is fourth in total blocks (47).
After winning their first conference game in program history Tuesday night against Houghton, the Buffalo State men's volleyball team looks to keep the momentum going against Penn State Altoona. With seven games to go, the Bengals are already just three wins shy of their win total from their inaugural season a year ago. Entering the season, the Bengals were picked in a tie for second in the AMCC Preseason Poll with Penn State Altoona. This will also be the first ever meeting between the two sides. Leading the Bengals this year is Gavin Wilczewski with 197 kills across 59 sets played, averaging over three kills per set. Also having a strong showing this year is Kaden Strong with 140 kills and 48.0 total blocks. Defensively, Alex Vega has been a staple for Buffalo State with 234 digs averaging 3.30 digs per set and a .963 reception percentage.
