AMCC MEN'S VOLLEYBALL ALL-CONFERENCE TEAM ANNOUNCED
Geneva College senior MB Byron Spear and Penn State Behrend senior DS Adrian Martinez have been named AMCC Men's Volleyball Co-Players of the Year.
Geneva College senior MB Byron Spear and Penn State Behrend senior DS Adrian Martinez have been named AMCC Men's Volleyball Co-Players of the Year.
Spear, a three-time AMCC all-conference selection, led the Golden Tornadoes with 309 kills on a .205 hitting percentage this season. His 3.15 kills per set was fifth in the AMCC. He also contributed 167 digs (1.70 d/s) to go with 57 blocks (0.58 b/s). Spear elevated his play during AMCC action, finishing tops in the conference with 4.4 points per set, while his 3.95 kills per set average was second in the AMCC. He hit an impressive .297 in conference play.
Martinez led the AMCC in digs per set (3.55 d/s) and total digs (334) this season. He currently ranks seventh in NCAA Division III in digs per set. He was an AMCC first team all-conference selection in 2021 and 2022. Martinez recently broke the school career digs record.
Saint Vincent College freshman RS Shawn McSwiggen has been tabbed as the AMCC Newcomer of the Year. McSwiggen ranked in the top-10 in the AMCC in a number of statistical categories, including aces (second), points-per-set (fifth), kills per set (seventh) and solo blocks (seventh). He posted a hitting percentage of .238 in all matches (8th in AMCC) and .259 in AMCC matches (11th). McSwiggen recorded two or more total blocks in nine different matches.
Penn State Behrend head coach Phil Pisano picks up his fifth career Coach of the Year honor. Pisano led the Lions to a 12-1 regular season record and the top overall seed for the AMCC Championship Tournament.
