BEHREND MEN'S TENNIS FACES ALLEGHENY IN NCAA FIRST ROUND
The Penn State Behrend men's tennis team will be making its third overall appearance in the NCAA Division III Tournament this weekend. The Lions will travel to Swarthmore, PA, to face the Allegheny College Gators at Swarthmore, the hosts of the first three rounds of the competition, beginning on Friday at 11 a.m.
The Lions (18-4) earned the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference's (AMCC)/United East Crossover automatic bid into the 49-team tournament after winning their 11th conference title. Behrend defeated Altoona 4-1 in the AMCC Championships and Marymount 4-3 in the United East Crossover to advance to the NCAA Championships. The Lions have won 14 consecutive matches.
Allegheny (17-7) captured its fourth Presidents' Athletic Conference title in a row. It is also the Gators' fourth NCAA Tournament appearance.
Since 1975, the Gators are 33-1 against Penn State Behrend, including five shutout wins in a row dating back to 2019.
Swarthmore received a first-round bye and will take on the winner of the matchup between Allegheny and Penn State Behrend on Saturday. No. 8 Carnegie Mellon and No. 43 Washington and Lee also earned first-round byes and will face each other in the other second-round matchup.
Saturday's second-round winners will meet in the third round on Sunday. Sunday's victor will move on to the national quarterfinals at Champions Tennis Club in Chattanooga, Tennessee on May 18-26.
