ALFRED STATE MEN & WOMEN RETAIN AMCC LEAD AFTER DAY 3
After day three of the Allegheny Empire Swimming and Diving Championships, the Nazareth College women and Alfred State College men continue to build on their leads and widen the gap heading into the final day of competition. Nazareth currently sits in first place on the women's side with 858.50 points, while Alfred State is in second place with 587 points. Penn State Behrend, with 544 points, is in third place. For the men, Alfred State holds a strong lead for first place with 823 points. Alfred University had a strong day, jumping from fourth place last night to second place today, with a total of 614.50 points at the end of today's competition. Sitting in third place for the men is Penn State Behrend with 608 points.
Friday evening kicked off with the women's 400 yard IM where Penn State Altoona's Grace Dangelo was victorious with a 4:48.17 finish. Penn State Behrend's Madelyn King was second (4:51.04), with Nazareth's Grace Cioffi (4:51.96) coming in third. On the men's side, Penn State Behrend's Tim Compton picked up another first place finish this week with a time of 4:04.45. Alfred State's Rafael Kowal was second, finishing in 4:12.34, and Alfred U's Will Lamastus rounded out the top three with a 4:13.68.
Next, was the women's 100 yard butterfly with Nazareth's Abbie Santos taking first place in 58.97. Alfred's Kamila Roman took the runner-up spot, touching the wall in 59.04, and Alfred State's Mallory O'Keefe finished in the three spot with a 1:01.11. For the men, Alfred State's Kellen Fletcher once again came out on top, finishing first with a time of 49.50, while Alfred's Colby Watkins was second in 50.62.
In the women's 200 yard freestyle, Hartwick College's Ellie Baird earned the gold with a time of 1:57.78, Nazareth's Julie Filipski was second (1:58.22), and Penn State Altoona's Sarah Petry was third (1:58.92). Alfred State's Westin Perry led the men with a first place finish in 1:41.22, while teammate Jazz Widney was right behind him in second place (1:42.75), and Hartwick's Dawson Tupponce was third (1:43.83).
Hartwick's Courtney Pierce led the way in the women's 100 yard breatstroke, clocking in first at 1:06.30. Nazareth's Abbie Santos was second with a time of 1:06.41 and Alfred State's Mikaela Snayczuk was third, touching the wall in 1:07.58. The men's 100 yard breaststroke saw Penn State Behrend's Will Perham with the first place finish (57.84) and Alfred State's Stuart Yates took second (57.92).
Next up was the women's 100 yard backstroke, which saw Alfred State's Alyssa James take first place with a time of 1:00.98 and Nazareth's Isabella Jaskowski take second (1:01.08). Alfred State's Westin Perry earned another gold medal on the day with a 49.82 in the 100 back, followed by Alfred's Will Lamastus in 51.29.
The women's 3m diving was controlled by Nazareth, as the Golden Flyers held down the top two spots. Lizzy Tripp took home the gold with 458.95 points and Alexa Rizzo got the silver with 418.05. Penn State Behrend's Julia Sank came in third with 277.95 points.
Friday night wrapped up with the 400 yard medley relay. Alfred State's Alyssa James, Mikaela Snayczuk, Mallory O'Keefe, and Madison Snayczuk led the way on the women's side, clocking in at 4:02.03 for the first place finish. Nazareth's Isabella Jaskowski, Julie Filipski, Abbie Santos, and Elizabeth Deck combined for a time of 4:02.61 and a second place finish. The men ended the night with Alfred State's foursome of Westin Perry, Stuart Yates, Kellen Fletcher, and Jazz Widney taking first place in the men's 400 medley relay with a time of 3:23.69. Alfred's Will Lamastus, Colin Schultz, Colby Watkins, and Alessandro Lagos earned a second place finish, combining for a time of 3:26.80.
The championships will continue Saturday morning with prelims starting at 10:00 a.m. and diving prelims at 11:30 a.m. The Senior/Academic ceremony will take place at 4:15pm and the finals on Saturday are slated for a 5:00 p.m. start.
