ALFRED STATE MEN & WOMEN CONTINUE TO LEAD AMCC AFTER DAY TWO
With day two of the 2023 Allegheny Empire Swimming & Diving Championships in the books, the Alfred State College men (442 points) and Nazareth College women (443 points) both hold on to their first place spots. On the men’s side, Hartwick College sits in second place with 340 points, while Penn State Behrend is third with 322 points. For the women, the Alfred State women hold down the second spot with 318 points, with Hartwick in third place with 262.5 points.
Thursday evening started out with the women’s 500 yard freestyle, with Hartwick’s Joelle Ocheltree taking first place with a time 5:16.40. Alfred State’s Alyssa James earned the runner-up spot, finishing in 5:18.34. In the men’s 500 free, Behrend’s Tim Compton took first place in 4:33.34, breaking the meet record he set last year, the AMCC meet and open record and the Behrend team record. Pitt-Bradford’s Conan Young came in second with a time of 4:41.86 while Hartwicks’ Dawson Tuopponce rounded out the top three, touching the wall in 4:47.90.
In the women’s 200 yard IM, Nazareth’s Julie Filipski finished in first place in 2:11.67, with teammate Abbie Santos right behind her, placing second in 2:13.95. For the men, Alfred State’s Kellen Fletcher was the top finisher in the 200 IM, touching the wall in 1:53.45, while also breaking his own meet record. Hartwick’s Mikey Schultz was a close second, finishing with a time of 1:53.63.
Next came the women’s 50 yard freestyle, where Alfred State’s Anna Ivery finished in 24.54 to come out on top. Nazareth’s Elizabeth Deck came in second with a time of 24.91. In the men’s 50 free, Alfred State’s Luca Aldewereld finished first in 20.86, while Nazareth’s Ryan Hough was right behind him, coming in second place with a time of 20.96.
In the men’s 3m diving, Alfred State’s Conor Compton earned a first place medal with a score of 504.95. Hartwick’s Jack Armstrong got second place with a score of 428.85, while Behrend’s Jacob Earley rounded out the top three with a 348.45.
Ending day two of the Allegheny Empire Swimming & Diving Championships, was the 200 yard freestyle relay. For the women, Nazareth came out on top, as Darby McNamara, Caroline Coleman, Abbie Santos, and Elizabeth Deck combined for a time of 1:38.37. Alfred State finished in the runner-up position, as Madison Snayczuk, Gabriela Leite, Mallory O’Keefe, and Anna Ivery finished in 1:39.33.
On the men’s side, Alfred State earned the first place finish, with Luca Aldewereld, Kellen Fletcher, Stuart Yates, and Jazz Widney combining for at time of 1:24.45. Penn State Behrend finished second, as Anthony Tumino, Dan Tanaskovic, Jax Abele, and Jake Eshelman recorded a 1:25.97 finish. Rounding out the top three was Alfred University’s foursome of Colby Watkins, Fernando Lagos, Noam Sokolovsky, and Alessandro Lagos combining for a time of 1:26.48.
The championships will continue Friday morning with prelims starting at 10:00 a.m. and diving prelims at 11:30 a.m. The finals on Friday are slated for a 5:00 p.m. start.
