FIELD SET FOR AMCC MEN'S SOCCER CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT
The AMCC Men's Soccer Championship Tournament kicks off this weekend, with Penn State Behrend clinching the #1 seed for the tournament championship. First round games will kick off this Saturday with #6 Pitt-Bradford traveling to #3 Alfred State College and #4 Mount Aloysius College hosting #5 Pitt-Greensburg. Penn State Behrend and #2 La Roche University will each receive first round byes.
Top seed Penn State Behrend enters the tournament with an AMCC-best 7-1 record in conference play. The Behrend Lions are led offensively by Owen Petersen and Reilly Nickles, as Petersen has recorded six goals and three assists while Nickles contributed five goals and three assists. Brock Kiefer and Jac Caputo each contributed three assists to the Lion offense, as well. Goalkeeper Anthony Scalise has only allowed five goals in seven conference games played, making 13 saves for a .722 save percentage.
With a 5-1-2 record in AMCC play, La Roche has earned the No. 2 seed. Redhawk forward Malvin Madzimbamuto led the offense with four goals and two assists in conference play, while Abdul Basit Suleman chipped in with three goals. Goalkeeper Maddox Anderson played every minute between the pipes for the Redhawks in league play, giving up six goals with 21 saves for a league-leading .778 save percentage.
With a 4-1-3 record, Alfred State enters the tournament as the No. 3 seed. Leading the Pioneers on offense is Henry Leahy with eight goals and three assists in AMCC play, while Ryan Masi has added four goals and one assist of his own. Leahy's eight goals and 19 points in conference play are both tops in the AMCC. Goalkeeper Alexander Preston has registered 25 saves, while giving up nine goals, for a .735 save percentage.
Mount Aloysius also carries a 4-1-3 record and enters the tournament as the No. 4 seed. For the Mountie offense, Tanner Polcyn and Levi Byrne each have four goals a piece, while Polcyn has also added three assists in conference play. Joel Martinez has also contributed to the Mount's offense with three goals and four assists and Gonzalo Terricabris added three goals and one assist. Defensively, Sam Denchfield and Elliott Enbacka have split time in goal, which Denchfield making 18 saves and six goals against for a .750 save percentage, while Enbacka recorded eight saves, giving up just two goals, for an .800 save percentage.
Sitting at 4-2-2 in league play is No. 5 Pitt-Greensburg. Ivan Remaley and Lucas Pittman led the Bobcat offense in conference play, both recording three goals and one assist a piece against AMCC teams, while Matt Armenio chipped in with two goals and one assist. Goalkeeper Nick Braun registered 22 saves, allowing six goals, for a .786 save percentage.
Rounding out the field is No. 6 Pitt-Bradford with a 3-5 record in conference play. Leading the Bobcat offense is junior Bailee Verdill with four goals and three assists, while Brady Hathaway registered three goals and two assists and Yihao Xu added three goals of his own. Goalkeeper Christopher House given up 13 goals with 30 saves for a .698 save percentage.
First round games will be played on Saturday, November 1, with the top two seeds receiving byes. The semifinals will take place on Wednesday, November 5, with the championship game on Saturday, November 8. The AMCC champion will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
