LA ROCHE CAPTURES FIRST CONFERENCE TITLE IN PROGRAM HISTORY
The La Roche University men's soccer team defeated Mount Aloysius College 1-0 in the AMCC championship game to capture their first-ever conference title in program history.
The first half was a defensive battle as neither team budged for nearly the entire 45 minutes. Looking at a 0-0 halftime score, the pendulum shifted into the favor of La Roche, with nine seconds remaining in the half, a quick corner kick by Phillip Hawkins found the head of Abdul Basit Suleman and the freshmen duo found the back of the net to give the Redhawks a 1-0 lead at the break.
The second half saw the tide potentially shift to the Mounties, as a red card assessed to La Roche forced the Redhawks to play a man down for nearly 30 minutes in the second half, but under 10 minutes, a Mount Aloysius red card evened the playing field for the remainder of the contest.
When the clock expired, Suleman's goal held serve and for the first time in program history, La Roche hoisted the AMCC Men's Soccer Tournament Championship and punched its ticket to the 2025 NCAA DIII Men's Soccer Tournament.
Both teams ended the day with nine shots and despite trailing 5-2 in shots on goal, the Redhawks scored the one that mattered most.
La Roche goalkeepter Maddox Anderson completed a perfect AMCC Tournament in goal, finishing with five saves for yet another shutout.
The Redhawks next opponent will be announced on Monday, Nov. 10 at 11:30 a.m. when the NCAA DIII Men's Soccer Tournament bracket show goes live.
