D'YOUVILLE'S MURPHY NAMED NEW DIRECTOR OF COACHING FOR DELAWARE SOCCER

Brendan Murphy, head coach of D'Youville College men's soccer team, has been named the new Director of Coaching for Delaware Soccer Club, announced the club recently.

"I feel fortunate to have the opportunity to work with two first class institutions in the Buffalo area and I look forward to the challenges that lie ahead, both at D'Youville and with Delaware Soccer Club," said Murphy.

"I also see great potential for a mutually beneficial relationship between these two organizations. I am optimistic about bringing us together for positive collaborative efforts in the near future."

Murphy, entering his fifth season with the Spartans, will lead the Delaware Soccer Club with his vision for the organization and extensive soccer resume. His duties for the club will include overseeing the entire club, down to the development players, coaches and club development. Delaware Soccer Club is the largest youth soccer club in the city of Buffalo, with over 1,400 players under his guidance.

The club includes girls and boys youth soccer with house leauges up to travel teams that play in the Buffalo and Western New York Junior Soccer League. A men's club team from the Delaware Soccer Club is also a competitve team in the Buffalo and District Soccer League's first division.

The extensive relationship between Murphy and the game of soccer have helped him reach this new position with Delaware Soccer. Brendan has been the leader of the D'Youville men's soccer program since 2013, winning Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Coach of the Year in 2014 and leading the team to their first AMCC playoff appearance.

From November 2012 to early in 2017, Murphy served as head coach of FC Buffalo; a member of the National Premier Soccer League. Following his time with FC Buffalo, the Spartan's skipper moved on to be the goalkeepers coach with the Rochester Rhinos of the United Soccer League. Brendan has also been an assistant coach at the University of Buffalo, Niagara University and Buffalo State.

As a player, Murphy had a decorated career at St. Lawrence University. The 6'6" goalkeeper won a NCAA Division III National Championship with the Saints in 1999 and had an incredible 41-1 career record over his four-year playing career. He graduated in 2002 with the records in winning percentage (.977) and career goals against average (0.53). He is fourth all time for the Saints in career shutouts (23).

The home to Delaware Soccer Club is Delaware Park, but the club also practices at Nardin Academy. In the early 1990s, Murphy played for the Delaware Magic of the Delaware Soccer Club.
