AMCC Men's Soccer Game of the Week:
Franciscan University @ Medaille College
Saturday, October 21 at 1:00 p.m.
The AMCC men's soccer game of the week features the Franciscan University Barons (10-4-2, 5-1-1 AMCC) traveling to Buffalo, NY to take on the Medaille College Mavericks (11-4, 6-1 AMCC). The Mavs are tied with Mount Aloysius College for second place in league standings with a 6-1 record, while the Barons sit just beneath them with a 5-1-1 conference mark.
The Barons have clinched their second-straight AMCC tournament appearance after a historic season. Franciscan has set the program’s single-season scoring record (117 points/43 goals) while 15 different players have scored at least one point for FUS. Senior forward Leo Herrmann continues to lead the conference in both points (41) and goals (17). The senior is a goal and a point shy of his single-season program record in both categories. Between the pipes, senior Thomas Dosedel is having a career season with a 1.25 GAA and 56 total saves. Dosedel has posted four shutouts this season; three against AMCC teams and is the all-time win leader at Franciscan. Breaking on to the scene this year is freshman midfielder JP Bobak. Bobak is second on the team with 21 points behind eight goals and five assists on the year. Senior Dominic Vander Woude has proven to be a threat on both sides of the ball as he has led the Baron defense while handing out four assists on the year.
The Medaille Mavericks have been on a roll as of late, winning six straight and seven of their last eight. They have found their scoring touch in the latter stages of the season, having netted at least three goals in their past eight contests, including an astounding 17 goals in their last two. They have outscored their last six opponents 32-3, and set a school record by having three student-athletes (Anthony Marafioti, Mitchell Ali, Lachlan Wilkinson) all recording hat tricks in the same game against Pitt-Bradford last Saturday. The Mavs haven't allowed a goal in four straight, last conceding against La Roche on September 30.
