Saturday, September 23 at 1:00 p.m.
The first AMCC Men's Soccer Game of the Week for the 2017 season features two of the top three teams following the non-conference schedule. Medaille College, the 2016 AMCC Runner-up, enters conference play with a 4-3 record, while Mount Aloysius College has the best non-conference record, standing at 5-0-1.
The Medaille College Mavericks opened the 2017 season with four straight wins before hitting a small skid dropping games to two nationally ranked top ten opponents. The Mavs have been led by an offensive committee in 2017, with eight different Mavericks recording at least one goal and six different players earning at least one assist. Sophomores James Lang and Mitchell Ali lead the way with four goals each, while last year’s AMCC Co-Offensive Player of the Year, sophomore Lachlan Wilkinson has two goals of his own and a team high three assists. Junior Matt Gabalski has taken over the reins in net for Medaille, stopping 26 shots for aa 74.3 save percentage.
The Mountie men's soccer team enters Saturday's contest with visiting Medaille led by a strong defensive backline that has allowed only four goals to this point in the season, the lowest among all conference members. Leading the charge has been sophomore goalkeeper James Eyre, who is tops in the conference with a 0.64 goals against average and .907 save percentage along with two shutouts. Also leading the defensive effort have been freshmen defenders Sergio Serna and Cameron Kemp along with juniors Pete Smerecky and Iddi Kaumba. Senior Graham Hunter (three goals) leads a balanced offensive attack in which five different players have contributed game-winning goals. The midfielder has been spearheaded by senior captain Diron Duah as well as freshmen James Maddison, Will Funez and Jonathan Fernandez.
