Penn St. Altoona (6-5, 2-1 AMCC) has been getting it done this season with a balanced approach: a strong attack, steady defense, and consistent goalkeeping. Sophomore midfielder Luke Nelson leads the Lions in points (15) and also ranks third among all AMCC players in that statistical category. He is first in the conference in assists (7) and eighth ingoals scored (4). Sophomore forward Matthew Hibbs is second on his team and seventh in the AMCC in points (12), and he ranks sixth in the league in goals scored (5). Junior midfielder Seth Murrelle is third on his team and ninth in the AMCC in points (12) while ranking eighth in the conference in goals scored (5). Penn State Altoona has also benefitted from steady play from a trio of defenders: junior Alhaji Umaru Koroma, sophomore Eric Alesius, and freshman Jacob Weaver. A model of dependability, that trio has combined to make 34 of a possible 36 starts this season. Possessing athleticism and smart decision-making skills, the three defenders anchor the Lions’ back line and are also not afraid to jump into the attack when needed. Penn State Altoona’s combined defensive efforts have allowed the third-fewest goals (14) of any team in the league this season. In goal, sophomore Liam Grady has posted a 7-4 record this season with two shutouts. His goals-against average of 1.27 is third-best in the AMCC, and his total of 11 goals against is the third-lowest in the conference.
Behrend, ranked 7th in the latest Great Lakes Region poll, currently holds a 9-1-2 overall record and is still perfect in conference play at 3-0. The Behrend Lions are led by senior forward Anthony Crivelli who has four goals and three assists, tallying 11 points. He now has 99 career points, placing him third on the all-time list. Junior forward Jared Myers has added to the mix, recording three goals for six points. Freshman goalkeeper Chris Ralph has six shutouts while posting a 0.47 GAA and adding 24 saves. Head Coach Dan Perritano is now only four wins away from reaching number 300 for the men’s program.
