The La Roche University Athletics Department announced Wednesday the hiring of Max Kaminsky as the next men's golf head coach. An alum and former student-athlete of nearby Point Park University, Kaminsky is a three-time River States All-Conference selection and two-time qualifier for the NAIA National Golf Championships.
Kaminsky is just the second men's golf head coach in La Roche history, succeeding Athletic Director Jim Tinkey who served as the head coach for 22 years from 1998-2020.
Kaminsky graduated from Point Park in the summer of 2018 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Sports, Arts and Entertainment Management. After graduation, he worked as a USGA P.J. Boatwright Intern. His duties as an intern included working with golf genius software to help club members and professionals organize tournament play and logistics, analyze course design to establish hazards/handicaps, picked pin locations and managed factors prior to tournament play. More recently, Kaminsky worked as the assistant golf professional at Indiana Country Club. There he accommodated members for outside operations, used the softwares TPP and golf genius for events as well as golf outings at the club, sold merchandise to members, assisted in billing member dues and managed junior golf camps.
During his high school career at Serra Catholic, Kaminsky became the first freshman in WPIAL history to win the AA WPIAL individual championship. He also made two trips to the PIAA State Championships and was a 3x All-Section selection during his time at Serra Catholic.
