GOLFERS SET TO TEE OFF SUNDAY FOR AMCC CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT
AMCC men's golfers will tee off this Sunday, October 7 at the Avalon Lakes Golf and Country Club in Warren, OH to determine the 2018 AMCC men's golf champion. Penn State Behrend has captured the past seven titles and will be looking for their tenth overall.
AMCC men's golfers will tee off this Sunday, October 7 at the Avalon Lakes Golf and Country Club in Warren, OH to determine the 2018 AMCC men's golf champion. Penn State Behrend has captured the past seven titles and will be looking for their tenth overall.
Behrend has competed in eight tournaments this fall and leads the AMCC with an average team score of 313.36. Sophomore Jack Perfett, the 2017 AMCC Newcomer of the Year, and individual medalist at last year's championship, leads the Lions this season with a 77.25 average. This score also ranks Perfett second in the conference. Senior Noah Kunst ranks fifth in the AMCC with a 78.27 season average.
Penn State Altoona ranks second in the league with a 318.00 team average on the season. Sophomore Jimmy Gillespie is third in the AMCC with a 77.5 average, while freshman Ethan Yohe ranks ninth with a 79.00.
Ranking third with a team score of 319.17 is La Roche College. Redhawk senior Tom O'Toole leads his team, and ranks seventh in the conference, with a 78.25 average. Junior Patrick McCall isn't far behind with a 78.5 average and an eighth place ranking.
Entering the championship tournament with a 319.43 team average is Pitt-Bradford. The Panthers are led by sophomore Cary Ignaczak's 79.43 season average.
Pitt-Greensburg senior Javon Trout is a two-time AMCC Golfer of the Year (2015, 2016) and is one again at the top of the leaders board. Trout's 76.60 average is tops in the AMCC this fall.
The tournament is a two day, 36 hole, stroke play event. Sunday's first pairings will tee off at 11:00am. Day 1 pairings shall be based on the order of team finish at the previous year’s tournament, with teams Hilbert/Mount Aloysius/D'Youville teeing off first, followed by Pitt-Bradford/Medaille/Pitt-Greensburg at 11:50am, and then Penn St. Behrend/La Roche/Penn St. Altoona at 12:40pm.
Monday's action will commence at 9:00am, with pairings determined by the Day One results. The tournament team champion will receive the AMCC's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament which will be held May 14-16 in Nicholasville, KY.
