Penn St. Behrend junior Nicholas VanDamia, the medalist at the AMCC championship tournament, has been voted the conference Golfer of the Year for 2014.
Penn St. Behrend junior Nicholas VanDamia, the medalist at the AMCC championship tournament, has been voted the conference Golfer of the Year for 2014. VanDamia led the Lions to their fourth consecutive league crown by shooting a 73-72/145 at the championship. He earned a 76.4 scoring average for the season, which included two first place finishes, one runner up, and one fourth place in six competitions.
Penn St. Altoona freshman Matt Brooks and Behrend senior Casey Courneen were selected as Co-Newcomers of the Year. Brooks, a first team selection. averaged 80 strokes per round in eight tournaments, recording four top-10 finishes including a tie for fourth at the AMCC championship. Courneen was the player who matched him. A fifth year senior but first-time golfer, Courneen held a 78 scoring average across four tournaments, finishing in the top 10 in three of them.
James Bowen earned Coach of the Year honors after guiding the Behrend squad to their sixth title in 10 years. He will lead the team into NCAA Division III championship tournament in May with the AMCC's automatic bid in hand.
