The Penn State Behrend men's basketball team travels to Steubenville, OH to take on Franciscan University in the AMCC Men's Basketball Game of the Week on Saturday.
The Lions had their nine-game winning streak snapped on Wednesday when they fell to D'Youville College, their first loss ever to the Spartans, and the first for Behrend since November 28. Sophomore Nolan Nuara did not miss on Wednesday, going 9-for-9 from the field for a career-high 21 points, while senior guard Andy Niland dished out 10 assists to go with nine points. Senior forward Dan Wanker could be the third player this season to reach 1,000 career points, as he currently sits at 918. Behrend remains in second place in the AMCC (6-2) behind undefeated La Roche at 8-0.
The Franciscan men’s basketball enters Saturday’s game with an 8-7 overall record and a 4-4 slate in conference play. The Barons set the program’s single-season win record this past Saturday with a 64-48 win over Hilbert College. Leading the way for the Barons is junior Matt Trent with 10.5 rebounds per game and 12.0 points per game. Sophomore Sean Hickey leads the Barons and is third in the AMCC with 16.4 points per game. As a team, the Barons are second in the league averaging 41.1 rebounds per game and boast a +4.2 rebound margin. Franciscan’s defense is second in the conference, holding teams to a 42.0 shooting percentage from the floor.
Behrend is 18-1 against Franciscan dating back to the 2008-09 season. The Spartans' lone win was a 67-64 victory in 2010.
