AMCC Men's Basketball Game of the Week:
Penn State Altoona at Penn State Behrend
Saturday, February 18 at 3:00 p.m.
The Penn State Behrend (18-6, 13-4 AMCC) men’s basketball team will host Penn State Altoona (13-11, 12-5 AMCC) on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. for the AMCC Men's Basketball Game of the Week. Penn State Altoona enters Saturday’s regular season finale looking for its first-ever season sweep of Penn State Behrend. The Altoona Lions have already clinched their first AMCC Tournament berth since the 2009-10 season, and they will be fighting for seeding in a tough road matchup at Behrend. Penn State Behrend, La Roche College, and Penn State Altoona are all battling it out for seeds 2 through 5 as we enter the final game of the regular season.
Penn State Altoona's seniors continue to shine and propel the squad to success this season. Guard/forward Javon Wilson, a recent addition to the program’s 1,000-point club, is fourth in the AMCC in points per game (16.9) and fourth in three-pointers made (49), and he is also second in steals (63). Guard/forward Quinn Luhr is 18th in the conference in points per game (13.9) and 12th in rebounds per game (5.9), and his 51 three-pointers made is the third-best mark in the AMCC. Forward Jordan Smith is third in the AMCC in rebounds (173) and rebounds per game (7.5), and he adds 10.3 points per game. Guard/forward Anton Lucas is sixth in the league in blocks (27) and ninth in steals (39). Guard Tay Charles adds 4.4 points per game, 40 assists, and 18 steals off the bench.
Penn State Behrend currently sits in second place with a 12-4 AMCC record. The Lions are coming off a 2-0 week, defeating La Roche on the road, 63-59 and then knocking off Pitt-Bradford 78-51 at home in last week’s Game of the Week. Justin Gorny averaged 18.5 points in last week’s victories. The sophomore forward drained seven threes behind 63.6 percent shooting and pulled down 10 boards. The Behrend Lions hold the 11th-best scoring defense in the nation, allowing just 63.9 points per game. Sophomore point guard Andy Niland and senior guard Malquan Pullium are the scoring leaders for Behrend. Niland is averaging 13.4 ppg, 4.4 assists per game and holds the nation’s 11th-best free throw percentage (91.5). Pullium is scoring 12.1 ppg and has a team-leading 44 offensive rebounds.
In their last meeting, Penn State Altoona won a thriller in overtime, a 69-67 victory on their home court in January.
