Hughes helped lead the Pioneers to a 2-0 start in conference play as he went 6-for-8 at the plate with three home runs, for 10 RBI, a walk, and a stolen base. In the the first game against Mount Aloysius, he went 4-for-4 with two homers and seven RBI. In game two, he went 2-for-4 with a home run, three RBI, and a stolen base. Also in game one, Hughes got the start and win on the mound as he pitched 5.0 innings scattering three runs over eight hits with three strikeouts, in the Pioneers 20-5 win over Mt. Aloysius.
