BEHREND BASEBALL DROPS HEARTBREAKER IN NCAA REGIONAL TOURNAMENT
The Christopher Newport University baseball team hit a walk-off home run to get past Penn State Behrend 10-9 in extra innings on day two of the 2026 NCAA Division III Regionals hosted by the Hornets at the Bank of James Stadium on Saturday.
With one out in the bottom of the 11th inning, Logan Adams homered to left field to keep Christopher Newport's NCAA run alive. Behrend built a commanding 9-2 lead through six innings before Christopher Newport rallied back a one-run win in extra innings.
The Lions exploded for five runs in the fourth inning, highlighted by RBI hits from Tyler Burick, Jake Federouch, Adam Cooper, and Cayden Turner. Behrend extended the advantage to 9-2 after six innings following Ionadi's RBI double and Burick's sacrifice fly. The Captains chipped away with three runs in the seventh inning, aided by a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch and a wild pitch. Christopher Newport tied the game in the eighth when Adams delivered a two-run double to make it 9-all. The Lions threatened in the 11th after Burick doubled and Behrend loaded the bases with one out, but the Captains escaped the jam. Adams was then responsible for the Christopher Newport advancing with his walk-off homer in the 11th.
Tyler Burick paced the offense, going 3-for-6 with a triple, double, and two RBIs. Silvio Ionadi added two doubles and two RBIs, while Cooper drove in two runs and scored once. Dylan Barnes scored twice and helped spark the middle-inning surge.
Andrew Bredel pitched the first 6.1 innings and struck out seven, paving the way for four relief pitchers. Jake Manendo was the closer, allowing just one hit and allowed one run while fanning three for the loss. The Lions outhit the Captains 12-10 but stranded 10 runners overall. Behrend finished the season with a 31-12 overall record
