BEHREND BASEBALL FALLS TO NO. 2 LYNCHBURG IN NCAA REGIONAL
The No. 2 University of Lynchburg baseball team defeated Penn State Behrend 9-1 in game one of the 2026 NCAA Division III Regionals hosted by the Hornets at the Bank of James Stadium on Friday.
Lynchburg registered nine runs on 11 hits, posting a pair of big innings to win the first game of the regional for the fourth straight year. The Hornets scored twice in the third inning on RBI hits from Joe Munitz and Sean Pokorak. Behrend answered in the fourth when Adam Cooper doubled to center to score David Gibson and cut the deficit to 2-1. Gibson singled to right field and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Cayden Turner. Cooper then drove in Gibson with the double to get within one. Lynchburg broke open a one-run game with four runs on three hits in the bottom of the fifth inning. The Hornets managed to add three more runs in the eighth for the final margin.
Tyler Kaltreider earned his ninth win on the mound, allowing five hits and striking out seven.
Colin Bolla fanned five in four innings of work for only his second loss of the season, before giving way to Jack Baumgartel, Will McMahon and Ethan Tinker. Gibson finished 2-for-3 with a run and a double for the Behrend Lions.
The Hornets have been ranked in the top five in Division III all season
The Lions will face the loser of Maryville and Christopher Newport tomorrow at 11 a.m.
