PENN STATE BEHREND BASEBALL CLAIMS NINTH AMCC TITLE
The No. 1 Penn State Behrend baseball team defeated No. 4 Alfred State College 12-6 to capture the 2026 AMCC Championship on Saturday at Sargent's Stadium at the Point.
Penn State Behrend erased a three-run deficit and exploded for five runs in the eighth inning to defeat Alfred State College for their ninth conference title in program history.
Behrend collected 17 hits in the win, led by a four-hit performance from David Gibson, who drove in two runs and scored once. Tyler Burick added three hits and two RBI, while Adam Cooper scored three times and reached base three times. Thomas Nicely also drove in a pair for the Lions.
After Behrend built an early 3-0 advantage, Alfred State answered with six unanswered runs across the fifth and sixth innings. Anthony Snyder sparked the rally with a solo homer in the fifth before Christian Morrison, Logan Lutz, and Frank Grad each delivered RBI in a four-run sixth inning to put the Pioneers ahead 6-3.
The Lions responded, scoring twice in the sixth on RBI hits from Dylan Barnes and Gibson before tying the game in the seventh when Cooper scored on a wild pitch. Behrend then broke the game open in the eighth, plating five runs highlighted by a go-ahead RBI single from Hank Shaffer and a two-run double from Burick.
Sawyer Prince earned the win in relief for Behrend, tossing three scoreless innings with four strikeouts and allowing no hits.
The Lions await the NCAA Division III selection show on Monday at 12 p.m after earning the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
