The AMCC baseball game of the week will feature the #1 and #2 teams in the conference. La Roche College (25-7, 10-0 AMCC) will enter Tuesday's double-header fresh off eleven straight wins and a perfect 10-0 record in conference play. Pitt-Greensburg (15-12, 7-1 AMCC) is sitting right behind them with a 7-1 AMCC mark and four straight conference wins. The 2016 showdown between the #1 Redhawks and #2 Bobcats will mark the first time Bobcat Park hosts the matchup since the 2008 regular season.
The Pitt-Greensburg offense is paced by junior shortstop/pitcher Dylan Pounds whose team-leading .426 batting average places him third in the AMCC. The emergence of freshman outfielder Chris Common and junior outfielder Ryan Dodson has added pop to the middle of the Bobcats' lineup, both ranking among the AMCC's top six in homeruns with four each. Pitt-Greensburg will also count heavily on All-AMCC performers and four year starters, utility plaeyer Matt Moyer, catcher Anthony Bozzuto, infielder Matt Germanoski, and infielder Greg Lynn, who recently captured UPG's career runs scored record with 133 in a sweep of Mount Aloysius last Wednesday. The pitching staff is also led by Pounds whose 2.60 ERA ranks him third in the conference. Pounds currently holds a 3-1 record with two saves on the year. Pitt-Greensburg also boasts two league leaders in wins with senior Brandon Rowland and freshman Cam Smith each earning four. Rowland ranks second in the AMCC in both strikeouts (38) and strikeouts per game with 9.33, residing right behind La Roche's Tanner Wilt in both categories.
La Roche is currently 25-7 and ranked 14th in the nation in the Perfect Game Poll while receiving votes in both the D3Baseball and ABCA national polls. The two-time defending AMCC Champions are also 5-2 against 2015 NCAA Tournament teams. La Roche brings one of the most powerful offenses in the country, ranking sixteenth nationally in runs scored and sixth in home runs. Junior right fielder Corey Lazor ranks second in the AMCC with a .433 batting average and leads the conference in hits, triples and total bases. Junior first baseman Ben Herstine hit for the cycle on Saturdayand currently ranks second in the AMCC in RBI, hits, triples and total bases. Junior third baseman David Lemley ranks second in home runs while senior shortstop Colin Williamson is fourth in runs. The Redhawks' pitching staff has been phenomenal this season and leads the conference in both ERA and strikeouts. AMCC Preseason Pitcher of the Year Tanner Wilt leads the staff and is coming off a complete game one-hitter where he struck out thirteen. He has a 1.65 ERA and has struck out 57 batters in 43.2 innings. Sophomore Regis Sauer is tied for the league lead in wins and junior closer Trey Claar leads the AMCC with seven saves.
