AMCC Baseball Game of the Week: La Roche College Redhawks @ Pitt-Bradford Panthers (Sunday, April 19)
This week's AMCC Baseball Game of the Week features the top two teams in the AMCC, with the La Roche Redhawks (16-7, 10-2 AMCC) traveling to Bradford, PA to take on the Pitt-Bradford Panthers (6-8, 5-2 AMCC). Both teams are fighting to finish the regular season as the conference's top seed and a chance to host the AMCC Baseball Tournament. Last season, La Roche swept the season series 2-0.
The La Roche College baseball team enters this weekend’s double-header with a 16-7 over record and an AMCC best 10-2 conference record. Eight All-Conference performers return from last year’s AMCC Championship team, including senior All-American Colin Feikles and senior All-Region players Tyler Ferguson, Brian Tougher, and Franzee Barlamas. Ferguson, who holds the AMCC strikeout record and led the nation in wins last season, ties for the conference lead in victories and ranks fourth in strikeouts. Junior Tanner Wilt has struck out 39 batters in 27 innings of work and freshman Regis Sauers has just a 1.92 ERA in seven appearances. Sophomore Center fielder Luis Navedo leads the Redhawks with a .388 batting average and three home runs. Junior shortstop Colin Williamson is not far behind with a .351 average, while senior right fielder John Watson leads the AMCC with five triples. Barlamas ranks in the conference’s top 5 in RBIs and stolen bases. Earlier this season, La Roche was ranked in the nation’s top 25 including three consecutive weeks at #24. Their strength of schedule is currently 101 in the nation and was as low as 34th.
The Panthers enter the weekend winning six of their last eight games and found their stroke on offense. During that stretch the Panthers have outscored their opponents 66-42. Senior Connor Borowski has been on fire as of late hitting ninth in the AMCC with a .396 batting average and is second in the AMCC with five home runs. Junior Bobby Sorokas has been lighting up opposing pitchers as he currently stands at fourth in the AMCC with a .410 batting average. Freshman Jay Clinger has emerged as an offensive threat for this Panthers’ lineup as the rookie currently leads the Panthers in hits (22) and is second on the team in run scored (12).
