AMCC ANNOUNCES ATHLETES OF THE WEEK FOR SEPTEMBER 23-29, 2024
The Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) has announced its Athletes of the Week selections in the sports of men's & women's soccer, cross country, men's golf, women's volleyball, and women's tennis for the period running from September 23-29, 2024.

Women's Volleyball (Offensive): Alfred State OH Racquel Gerstenberger led the Pioneers to a 2-0 weekend. She tallied 31 kills with a .236 hitting percentage, seven aces, and 14 digs. In the first game against Delhi, she put in 14 kills and six aces. She followed with a 17 kill performance as she averaged 5.67 kills per set. For the week, Gerstenberger averaged 5.17 kills per set and recorded seven service aces, averaging 6.3 points per set.
Women's Volleyball (Defensive): Mount Aloysius OH Molly Richards was a leading force for the Mounties in a 3-1 week. She tallied double-digit kills in all four games, while registering 23 digs or more in three of the four games. On Tuesday, Richards had 11 kills and 23 digs in a loss to W&J. With the 23 digs, she went over 1,000 digs for her career. Against Wilson on Thursday, she tallied 15 kills and hit .565, leading the Mounties to a win. Then, on Saturday, Richards had 20 kills and 29 digs in a win against Waynesburg and 16 kills and 24 digs against Penn State Harrisburg. She finished the week averaging 4.43 kills per set and 5.93 digs per set. Richards leads the league in kills per set and ranks in the top five in total kills, digs per set, and total digs.
Men's Soccer (Offensive): PS-Behrend D Andrew Cassano netted his first two scores of the season which were both game-winners, while also holding down the backline for Behrend in two road victories last week. At Houghton, he sent a header goal into the back of the net in the 68th minute to give the Lions a 2-1 win over the Highlanders. Cassano registered the first goal of the game in the AMCC opener at La Roche Saturday and helped Behrend preserve its first shutout win of the season.
Men's Soccer (Defensive): Hilbert GK Daniel Downes had five saves and his first career shutout in Hilbert's 1-0 win over Carlow.
Women's Soccer (Offensive): Carlow F Jenna McGuinness led Carlow to a 2-0 week with four goals and an assist, including two goals in Carlow's AMCC opener win over Hilbert.
Women's Soccer (Defensive): Carlow GK Lyndsey Szekely split time in net this week, making eight stops with a .889 save percentage and earning the win over Penn State New Kensington Sept. 24 as Carlow went 2-0 on the week.
Men's Golf: PS-Altoona JR Peter Nusbaum shot 1-over par in round one in this past weekend's Northeast Elite at Williamsport Country Club, then an even-par 71 in round two to total 143 across two days. The junior finished in a tie for 11th place out of 104 individuals in the tournament.
Women's Tennis: Carlow SO Sofia Hernandez led the Celtics as Carlow went 3-0 on the week led by Hernandez who had three singles and two doubles wins. Hernandez went 3-0 in singles play and 2-1 in doubles play on the week. In conference play, Hernandez went 2-0 and 2-0 against Mount Aloysius and La Roche.
Men's Cross Country: Pitt-Greensburg SR Dylan Ackerman led the Bobcats and won the Mount Aloysius Mountie Invite by over a minute, crossing the 5k finish line in 18:42.6.
Women's Cross Country: Carlow JR Ella Cloak led the Celtics with a first place finish of 22:48.6 in the 3.11-mile race at Mount Aloysius. It is the first time the Celtics placed first as a team since the Penn State Greater Allegheny Invitational on Sept. 16, 2017.
