The Franciscan University volleyball team hosted a successful Dig Pink Match this past season and was ranked in the top three of Division III teams after raising a donation of $2,261.
The Lady Barons have raised $5,004 over the last four years for the Side-Out Foundation.
"I am very proud of our team and the efforts in hosting this fund-raiser for such a great cause," remarked head coach Kelly Herrmann.
The Side-Out Foundation's mission is to inspire science and hope in the match against breast cancer. Stage 4 breast cancer is the most advanced form of the disease yet the least funded area of research. With the help of the donations of fundraisers like Franciscan's, the foundation is supporting the development of treatments that are giving stage 4 breast cancer patients more quality time with their families.
Coach Herrmann has announced the team's Dig Pink Day for 2017 will be held on Saturday, September 9. Some of the schools that will be participating this year are, Brooke, Steubenville High School, Edison Local, Beaver Local, and Jefferson County Christian School.
"This year we are having a hard time finding a team to play, but even if we do not play that day, we will still host a great event with many local high schools participating and several teams from outside the area!
"Our goal for next season is to raise over $10,000," continued Coach Herrmann. "Last year we took a big step with the help of Kimberly Sponseller in our marketing and communications department and this year we hope to speak to the Steubenville Chamber of Commerce to see how we can partner with local businesses to help reach our goal!"
