The Mount Aloysius College and Penn State Behrend women's volleyball teams will square off on Saturday in the first AMCC Women's Volleyball Game of the Week this season. Both teams enter the game 1-0 in conference play and sit in a four-way tie for first place in the AMCC.
The Mountie Women's Volleyball team heads into their matchup against Penn State Behrend with a 1-0 conference record after beating La Roche on Tuesday. They are led by junior OH Molly Richards, who leads the AMCC on both sides of the ball, topping the league in both kills and digs. She is coming off consecutive weeks being named the AMCC Defensive Player of the Week. In the middle is So. MH Mackenzie Barr, who ranks fifth in the AMCC with a .263 hitting percentage. Barr has contributed to the Mountie offense at a high rate, combining efficiency and chances, as she also ranks in the AMCC top five in Kills and Kills Per Set. Barr's twin sister has added to the defense, ranking in the top five in both Digs and Digs Per Set, starting as the Libero for the Mounties. They will look for their first win ever against Penn State Behrend, as they head into Saturday's matchup in Erie.
The Lions are playing their second straight conference game at home. Behrend recently defeated Pitt-Bradford on Tuesday night in the Junker Center, 3-0, marking the first 3-0 sweep for the Lions this season. The Lions are tied with three other teams for first place in the AMCC, including Alfred State, Mount Aloysius, and Penn State Altoona. Cade.nce Jones recorded a team-best 12 kills and added nine digs. Brynne Smith tallied her fourth double-double of the season with 32 assists and 14 digs. Jones ranks second in the AMCC in kills (261) and is second in kills per set (3.58). Jones also continues to rank nationally in total kills, staying at 20th in the nation. As a team, the Lions rank first in total blocks in the conference (111) and are third in overall kills (684). Smith paces the AMCC in total assists with 415 and is third in assists per set (5.68).
