The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) announced that Hilbert College's Emily Gawlak was crowned the 2017 NCAA Division III statistical champion for Draw Controls Per Game in women's lacrosse.
Gawlak's 10.93 draw controls per game lead all three NCAA Divisions as she stretched ahead of her next closest Division III opponent by 1.29 draws per game. The freshman midfielder earned 153 draw controls this season as she helped the Hawks win 229 draw controls as a team. The Mt. Mercy (Buffalo) native collected nine games where she posted double-digit draw controls and established a program-best 17 draws against Lancaster Bible April 7.
Gawlak was named the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Rookie of the Year and earned a spot on the Second Team All-Conference. She repeated that same honor in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) being tabbed the Newcomer of the Year and garnered a spot on the First Team All-Conference.
